World After by Susan Ee
Plot:
Sequel to AngelFall…
Penryn has trouble accepting what her sister Page has turned into but she’s still her family and she would do anything to protect her.
Broken, half-starved humans that would even resort to cannibalism out of despair, are the only resistance available to put up a fight against the Angels and their scorpion-like creations.
The survivors rise to protect what’s left of humanity but what can mere humans do against powerful angels aiming to destroy it all?
Personal Thoughts:
The book picks up where the last finished with a cliffhanger that would have made me crazy if I didn’t already have the whole trilogy at my disposal!
Soooooo, I need to read the conclusion RIGHT NOW but, before I jump on the last book, I’ll share my thoughts on this one:
✷ Believable rendition of the post-apocalyptic scenario through Penryn’s eyes.
Angels are the bad guys but humans are capable of awful things if driven by desperation…
This book was darker than the previous one but perfectly in line with the plot and setting.
✷ The pace of the story is a bit slower at the beginning but I didn’t mind much because the actual plot makes up for it and the pace picks up toward the middle.
✷ I couldn’t wait for Penryn and Raffe’s path to cross again, even so, I loved how the author shows the heroine’s independence and strenght on her own, she doesn’t need a leading man!
“I look up to say something but he puts his fingers to my lips and whispers, “Don’t talk. You’ll just spoil my fantasy of rescuing an innocent damsel in distress as soon as you open your mouth.”
✷Also Penryn’s relationship with her sister is awesome, I loved them together!
Above all I’m so happy with the heroine’s “badassery”!
I know that’s not officially a word…you get what I mean anyway ;D
✷ Add to the mix a great assortment of secondary characters, the powerful sword “Pooky Bear” and Penryn’s schizophrenic mother…
Onto the next!

~ Quotes ~
“She wasn’t made to be alone.”
“I guess none of us are.”
Our eyes meet and an electric tingle runs through me.
“She missed you,” I say in a whisper.
“Did she?” His voice is a soft caress. His gaze into my eyes is so intense that I swear he sees straight into my soul.
“Yes.” Warmth flushes my cheeks. I… “She thought about you all the time.”
The candlelight flickers a soft glow along his jawline, along his lips. “I hated losing her.” His voice is a low growl. “I hadn’t realized just how attached I’d gotten.” He reaches and moves a strand of wet hair out of my face. “How dangerously addictive she could be.”“He glares at me. “I’ve had to watch you die once, isn’t that enough?”
“All you have to do is make sure it doesn’t happen again.” I give him a sunny smile. “Simple.”
“The only thing simple is you. Stubborn little…” His grumbles fades to a point where I can’t hear them, but I suspect they’re not compliments.”“You broke me out of the grasp of a living horror when I thought all hope was gone. You gave me the opportunity to crawl back to life when no one else could.”
She glances over at me, her eyes shining in the dark. “You’re a hero, Penryn, whether you like it or not.”
