The Opposite of You by Rachel Higginson
Plot:
Michelin Star Chef Killian Quinn is respected and admired for his talent and work ethic and he runs his kitchen with a firm hand and discipline.
He works peacefully at a top notch restaurant located in a classy area until one day… he finds a food truck parked on the other side of the street!
WHO DARED?!?
Vera‘s biggest dream is being an awesome professional chef but trusting the wrong man broke her heart and forced her out of the country to escape his abuse.
She’ll NEVER TRUST ANOTHER MAN again. NEVER.
3 years later, she’s finally ready to forge her own path to that dream she thought was lost to her.
Apparently her brand new business disturbs themichelin chef of the fancy restaurant across the plaza…WHO CARES?
Personal Thoughts:
“I hate you almost as much as I hate salt.”
His lips twitched with an almost smile.
“You don’t hate salt.” He stepped closer. “And you really don’t hate me.”
Lovely story, couldn’t put this book down!
I’m not sure Vale and Killian are as “opposites” as the author wanted them to appear though.
The chemistry is great but it doesn’t come from the “opposites’ attraction” vibe.
I also didn’t feel Killian’s “assholery” at all.
Both Vale and Killian himself keep saying he’s an “asshole” but HE’S NOT !!!
He’s just very serious about his job and he knows what he wants.
He’s one of the perfect men we all dream about and look for as book-boyfriend material…
..one of those we wished were real! ♡_♡
The writing in the first half of the book made me feel like I was too stuck on Vale’s thoughts.
She goes on and on and she’s often too repetitive.
I had the feeling what I was reading was too bland.
The first half of this book definitely needed a bit more flavor but, in the last half, the book’s pace picks up and I was completely sucked into Vale & Killian’s story!
I have a minor complaint about a random and unnecessary very brief scene
where Vale watches Killian going away with a blond girl at the back of his bike.
Until the very end I was sure that girl was Ezra’s half sister or some other friend but she wasn’t…it probably was his “booty call” that night.
It just felt random because nowhere in this book there’s a mention to Killian’s past relashionships/sex partners.
He’s arguing/flirting with Vale and and the next page he’s taking off with a girl…then nothing at all about it.
It left me wondering and confused
The ending is super sweet but I wished for an epilogue about them a couple of years into their life together.
⭐ 3.5 Stars rounded up to 4 ⭐
*Maybe I’ll get a bit more of Killian & Vale in their BFF Ezra & Molly’s book…
Can’t wait to read about those two in The Difference Between Us (Opposites Attract #2)!
