The Cad and The Co-Ed by L H Cosway and Penny Reid
PLOT:
Bryan Leech and Eilish Cassidy share a night of passion that Eilish will never forget.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Bryan.
Bryan is a famous rugby player and, other than playing, partying and one night stands are what he does best.
He’s more often than not drunk and used to black outs after his nights having all kinds of fun.
18 years old Eilish naively falls into Bryan’s bed while he’s intoxicated.
She does not realize the circumstances until the morning after when Bryan acts like the jerk he actually is.
…fast forward 5 years and things have changed drastically in both Bryan and Eilish’s lives.
Eilish is not that naive girl anymore.
She has a little boy to take care of.
Aaaaaand guess what? Little Patrick is Bryan’s son.
Bryan does not remember Eilish and he has NO IDEA he has a son.
He’s not the man he was 5 years before though.
He had to sober up and clean up his act.
“@THEBryanLeech: There’s nothing better in life than a cup of peppermint tea, a comfortable pair of PJs and a good book. @RonanFitz to @THEBryanLeech: You got hacked by your grandad again. Just FYI.”
Nope, not the same guy AT ALL!
Life brings Eilish on Bryan’s path again and things get complicated.
“Stupid heart. Stop swelling. Swelling is bad for you. Stay small and protected.”
Again, it’s lust at first sight but this time Bryan is perfectly sober.
How will they make up for their mistakes?
PERSONAL THOUGHTS:
Knowing both these characters from the previous book, I was really looking forward to “The Cad and The Co-Ed”.
If you haven’t yet read “The Player and the Pixie (Rugby, #2)” you might enjoy this story more than I did because you’ll meet the characters for the first time and you’ll not have expectations based on how they were portrayed in their past.
I expected to see Bryan’s trasformation into the dreamy hero Eilish and their little boy deserve…but the authors skipped all the way to the dreamy part.
“Bryan turned, his gaze sweeping over the playground, and I watched his profile. I knew the exact moment his eyes found Patrick. Bryan’s expression became one of wonder. And in that moment, I believed in love at first sight, because I’d just witnessed it. I’d just witnessed a man fall head over heels in love with his own son.”
Bryan 5 years later IS dreamy.
I know that both authors are capable of so much more though, and I am disappointed.
Alcoholic jerk Bryan is only mentioned and the story is fast forwarded.
These authors are GREAT with character’s development and I wanted so much MORE of that.
Glossing over Eilish becoming a mom at 19 and Bryan’s sobering up after being an alcoholic made me feel detached about it all.
Their story is driven by lust.
It’s also sweet, light and funny but…I didn’t feel the love.
When characters have serious issues, like those Eilish and Bryan had, I expect so much more than a light and sweet comedy, expecially from talented authors like L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid.
