The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon
Plot:
In the Land of Jeru, a land in which all magic is forbidden by the King, there’s a girl gifted with the power of words that cannot speak.
Her mother, Lady Meshara, used her own gift to insure her daughter’s safety and with these words she changes the destiny of an entire reign:
Swallow, Daughter, pull them in, those words that sit upon your lips.
Lock them deep inside your soul, hide them ‘til they’ve time to grow.
Close your mouth upon the power, curse not, cure not, ‘til the hour.
You won’t speak and you won’t tell, you won’t call on heav’n or hell.
You will learn and you will thrive.
Silence, Daughter. Stay alive.
Little Lark lives her life like she’s in a cage created by her mother’s words and her father’s greed.
You see, her mother thought everything through and told her father he had to keep their daughter alive or he would die with her.
Lady Meshara gives her life to save her little Lark’s, while her father, Lord Corvyn, keeps her alive because, if the king’s son is lost to the sky, he could claim the throne.
And so Lady Lark grows in her home that is a wordless cage until the King’s son, now King Tiras, takes her with him as insurance to dissuade her father from overthrowing him.
That’s how Lady Lark becomes King Tiras’s pawn.
Soon though, they realize their destinies are intertwined and their bond of trust and love that grows every day more is the key that could save the land.
“Suddenly yearning had a flavor. It tasted like a king, a beautiful, frightening, infuriating man who flew into my life and began to free my words.”
Personal Thoughts:
I’m in awe of Amy Harmon’s talent.
She writes powerful stories that stay with me long after I reach the last page of her books.
NOT ONCE they’ve left me indifferent or unfeeling.
Great storytellers know how powerful words can be because…
“Yes. You don’t need wings to fly,” she chirped.
“What do you need, Daughter?” I asked softly.
She looked up at me, her big, black eyes alight with knowledge, and she smiled.
“Words.”
If you’re looking for a beautiful, meaningful, epic and original journey…
