Roomies by Christina Lauren
Plot:
Holland Bakker has a crush on a brilliant street musician.
For months she goes out of her way just to stop at the subway station where he performs but she never speaks to him.
She has a great hear for music and she works as an assistant in the same Broadway company where her uncle is a director.
When a part opens up, her first thought goes to that talented man, she brings her uncle to him and he gets captivated too.
Calvin McLoughlin is completely shocked and excited about the amazing opportunity Holland’s uncle gives him but his student visa expired long ago and he cannot be hired illegally by the company.
Holland has a lot of reasons for wanting Calvin in her uncle’s production and impulsively offers to wed him…
Personal Thoughts:
The story starts slow and sweet with an insecure heroine nurturing a huge crush on a talented guitarist that performs in a subway station.
The story progresses and builds up convincingly until a string of misunderstandings and undisclosed truths roll in, one after the other, until the very end.
A little bit of drama that build up tension? Awesome
Drama and misunderstandings easily solved by talking things out? NOT AWESOME.
I had a good feeling about this book and I really enjoyed the writing but I had lots of issues with the plot and the ending.
My reading experience with this book felt a lot like this:
It ended up on a flat line for me.
It’s a very personal opinion but the never ending string of misunderstandings got on my nerves and the ending with the “we have all the time we need” line underwhelming.
