Reclaiming the Sand by A Meredith Walters
My Review:
An heart wrenching story about a bully and her victim.
A story about two souls looking for acceptance, forgiveness and love…
When life’s struggle makes you belive you’re not good enough, that you’re not worth anything, you walk this earth like a broken soul trying to keep it together the way it hurts you less.
Feeling something deep might mean loosing what little has kept those broken pieces from falling apart.
That’s what Ellie McCallum does.
She acts like nothing can hurt her because nothing matters enough to do so.
Flynn Hendrick is the new kid in school and he is different. He has Asperger’s syndrome.
People look at him and can’t see passed it.
❝I hate being alone. I want people to talk to me. I want them to like me. It makes me angry when I try to say something and people ignore me. Or worse they laugh.
They call me names. Lots of names. Mean names.❞
He doesn’t like the way people look at him except for Ellie.
Ellie sees him, really sees him and he understands her like no one has ever done before.
❝You should do what makes you happy. You are smart. You are beautiful. You can do anything. You don’t belong here. You belong out there.❞
He makes her feel beautiful.
He makes her feel like she’s worth everything and that scares her, like nothing else ever has.
He forgives her, he loves her unconditionally even if she’s hurt him in every way she could, to push him away.
❝I’m upset, Ellie! Because you won’t talk to me! Because you always hurt me! You make it so hard to love you!❞
People never cared, they’ve always run away, that’s all she’s always known and that’s how she learned to survive, running away first.
After a few years apart life brings them together again…
Maybe this time she’ll not run away, she’ll stay and fight.
❝There were never two people more ill suited for a relationship than us. We were all wrong. We didn’t stand a chance.
And that made me want to fight for it even harder.❞
❝We sat huddled together in the cooling air, watching as the boat returned the beach to where it belonged.
I sat there, the waves crashing in their soothing symphony and realized I was like the sea eating away at the beach. I had taken and destroyed heedlessly. I had grabbed Flynn’s sand and carried it away, not caring about the consequences.
And in the process I had washed away and lost myself.
But Flynn had scooped me up and put me back where I belonged. He gave me my beach back.❞
Maybe she deserves to be happy.
Maybe she can dream and make those dreams come true.
…..and maybe you’ll love this book as much as I do😍
