Overexposed by Megan Erickson
Plot:
Reality show star Levi Grainger needs to put the pieces of his life back together.
Tired of being seen as stereotyped gay character, he leaves his tv show to join her sister back home only to receive the worst news possible.
His sister will not come back from deployment because she was killed.
They had planned to go on the Appalachian Trail together and, trying to cope with this tragic loss, he decides to leave on his own.
He’s not an “adventures in nature” kind of man but he perseveres and, on the trail, he meets Thad.
Thad is closed off and mysterious but he knows what he’s doing and Levi definitely needs the help because his survival skills?
Practically nonexistent.
The more time they spend together, the stronger their connection grows and becomes something more…
“You’re smiling. Like a real honest-to-God smile.”
“I’m capable of it.”
“Well, I wasn’t so sure.”
“You make me smile. That’s all you.”
“Nah, I think it’s just us together.”
There’s a reason behind Thad’s decision to do the Appalachian Trail though, a reason that might break Levi’s heart all over again.
Personal Thoughts:
“Can you tell me why you like looking at the moon?”
[…]
“I like that no matter where I am, it’s always the same. It’s familiar. It’s the one thing I could always look up to and feel . . . grounded.”
“Wow,” I said. “Never thought of it that way.”
“You just like the moon because it’s made of cheese?” he joked.
I cast my gaze down to where my hand rested on his chest. I flexed my fingers, and he heaved in a breath. “The moon’s all right. But I like watching you while you watch it.” My voice was soft but sincere, and his muscles tensed beneath my palm. “It’s the only time you seem content and at peace, and I don’t want to miss that look on your face.”
He didn’t move or make a sound, and I risked a glance at his face. He was watching me steadily.
“How do you think I’m looking at you right now?”
I was locked into his gaze, and it seared me all the way to my bones. I swallowed, my mouth dry. “I don’t know.”
“I’m not looking at the moon right now, Le,” he said. “I’m looking at you. Those gorgeous eyes. Those lips. That body. You’re the moon I get to see during the day.”
OH LORDY….I loved Thad & Levi’s story!
Toward the very end I felt a little less into it, detached, as if it was a bit toned down and quickly wrapped up.
Even so, this book is an undeniably great m/m romance, one of the best I’ve read so far.
Levi made me laugh and Thad made me swoon, together they were perfect.
“Part of me wants you to not speak. Not tell me things. Because the more I learn about you, the more I like you. The more I realize what kind of man you are, and how it makes me want to be a better man myself.”
Thad’s fingers flexed where he held my waist. “Levi,” he groaned, as he dropped his forehead onto my shoulder. “I’m not perfect.”
“I don’t want you to be perfect. Perfect’s boring.” My throat began to close up and I dug my fingers into his hair. “But you’re perfect for me. You fill in all of my cracks, all the places where I’m not whole. I can only hope I do the same for you.”
He lifted his head, eyes wet. “You do. You so do.”
Moving and well developed characters, remarkable writing, good plot.
