Mists of The Serengeti by Leylah Attar
Plot:
On the wake of a Mall terroristic Attack in Tanzania, 2 people on the opposite sides of the world are grieving the loss of their loved ones
Rodel Harris Emerson is a teacher in England and she’s just lost her sister.
Jack Warden is a divorced coffee farmer in Tanzania and he’s just lost his very young daughter.
For different reasons, they cannot forgive themselves for not being there when their loved ones needed it most.
Rodel travels to Tanzania to lay her sister to rest and make sense of this tragedy but, while looking among her sister’s belongings, she discovers her sister was involved in a dangerous mission: saving albino children from certain death.
In local culture, village people still believe these children possess special powers and they kill them or sell them.
She cannot ignore her sister’s carefully constructed plan and she decides to embark on a dangerous journey that leads her to Jack.
Jack is so stricken with grief, nothing seems to matter anymore.
When Rodel shows up on his doorsteps asking for help with her absurd plan, he does his best to make her go away.
She does not.
They don’t know it yet but life…
Life is waiting.
Personal Thoughts:
“Will I miss you?” He lifted his head and looked at me.
“Like a dream that starves and curls up beneath my bones.”
I thought his touch was the only cure for my crazy, heated senses, but I found myself being pulled beyond the circle of his arms, to a place where souls go to kiss—lipless and formless and free.
I knew that whenever I thought of love, it would have a face, a name, a voice.
And I would hear its heart beating from inside a tent in the wilds of Africa.
READ THIS BOOK.
Seriously.
You want more. You’ve always wanted more. But you don’t always get what you want. Sometimes you get exactly what you need.
READ IT. NOW.
I felt it all. Every emotion possible.
That scene at the end…god!
I really don’t know what to say.
“Pull a thread here and a life unravels there.”
How often we forget that we are all connected?
Every time a life is lost to discrimination, war and any kind of violence, I wish I could engrave this words on every heart of every human being on this planet:
“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”
When I first read them at 15 it was so clear to me and it was difficult to understand why power, wealth and anger are so much stronger than that simple truth.
Taleenoi olngisoilechashur.
We are all connected.
“What is it?” asked Rodel as I looked around the barn.
“You ever wonder what we’d find if we could pick up the threads back to the point where things unravel, where paths cross, and lives pivot, and people come together?”
I do wonder and, as children of humanity, I hope one day we’ll stop hating all the differences that divide us.
I just took off on a tangent…I know ^_^
This book gifted me with this important reminder too:
“It struck me then that I would be all right, no matter what.
Sometimes you come across a rainbow story—one that spans your heart.
You might not be able to grasp it or hold on to it, but you can never be sorry for the color and magic it brought.
Those rainbow stories make our lives beautiful and worth living to the fullest because..
This is what it looks like when you wander somewhere between the sand and stardust, and meet a piece of yourself in someone else.
I loved this book.
It wasn’t perfect but it was a special read for me and overall I can’t rate it less then 5 stars.
