Hunted by Megan Spooner
Plot:
The snow is a canvas, her father would say, upon which the beast paints his past, his home, his intentions, his future. Learn to see the picture and you will know him as you know yourself.
Yeva has learned from her father to hunt in the Beast’s forest, a white-covered wilderness that holds secrets waiting to be uncovered.
When her father loses his fortune and position among the aristocracy, the family moves back to their old lodge in the forest, a place Yeva loves.
Yeva’s father is probably the only human that has ever escaped the unkillable Beast and he’s madly obsessed with tracking the creature.
When he suddenly disappears, Yeva follows his tracks and what she discovers changes her life forever.
Her father’s body and the creature that caused it all.
Overpowered and taken to his lair, a ruined castle on a cursed valley, she finds an entire new world of creatures trapped under an unbreakable spell.
She was captured but not defeated and the unkillable beast?
She’ll find a way to revenge her father, no matter the costs.
Personal Thoughts:
“She moves like beauty, she whispers to us of wind and forest—and she tells us stories, such stories that we wake in the night, dreaming dreams of a life long past. she reminds us of what we used to be.
She reminds us of what we could be.”
With a darker take on the classical tale, this book is one of the best Beauty & The Beast YA retellings I’ve read so far!
“Hunted” also weaves into the story a beautiful russian fairytale ‘‘Ivan, the Firebird and the Gray Wolf’’ of which I knew nothing about.
With the release of Walt Disney’s latest Beauty and The Beast movie, I’ve been in the mood for retellings…
I truly enjoyed “Heart’s blood” by Juliet Marillier and, the following weekend, I jumped onto “Beauty of the Beast” by Rachel L. Demeter, a disappointment because I felt bored a few chapters in.
I already know the story so a good retelling is supposed to hold my attention with something original about it.
What didn’t happen with “Beauty of the Beast” happened with HUNTED.
This book was AWESOME.
A badass Beauty that can be even deadlier than the Beast!
The writing, the AMAZING worldbuilding, the characters, the additions/differences to the classical Beauty & The Beast plot….I enjoyed everything!
