Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting
Plot:
Hayden is a tattoo artist, inked and pierced all over.
Tenley is a sweet girl working part-time for Hayden’s aunt while pursuing a master degree.
They are two young people with very different backgrounds and both have a tragic pasts that still hunts them.
To give her guilt and pain some sort of release, Tenley asks Hayden to ink on her a full back piece, an intricate design that shows how truly deep her scars are.
While Hayden works on Tenley’s tattoo, their mutual attraction slowly develops into more and their demons are revealed.
There’s still a secret Tenley isn’t ready to share for fear of losing the best thing that has ever happened to her.
When her past comes knocking, she’s forced to face it once and for all.
Personal Thoughts:
“Everyone has scars … If we’re lucky, they’re only on the outside.”
Both MC have tragedies in their pasts and both hide them for most of this book expecially Tenley.
“I’m sorry I can’t make the hurt go away.”
“You do, every time you touch me.”
Being with Hayden makes Tenley feel a little less “broken” and, when things evolve with him, her fear of losing what they have because of her past keeps her from telling him the whole truth about her scars.
The story was engaging at first but is dragged in the second half.
Tenley hides her secrets way too long and I don’t understand why the major one is considered such a big deal.
I’m not a fun of conflicts created by issues easily solved by simply talking things through hence, I was very irritated with their situation.
“I hadn’t considered the possibility that I might find someone who would understand what I had endured and want me anyway, even though I wasn’t whole.”
With each other they find a chance at happiness but Tenley’s past threatens it, leaving us with an incomplete story.
In my opinion the author should have chosen quality over quantity instead of dragging the plot in the second half of the book, just to spread the story into two books.
