Chasing the Tide by A Meredith Walters
Plot:
…The continuation of Ellie McCallum and Flynn Hendrick’s story.
Ellie has just graduated from college and she’s keeping her promise to Flynn.
She is coming home.
The place that holds her most painful and horrible memories.
The place where the man that taught her how to love, has been waiting for her.
She wants to build a life with him but to have a future, in a town that reminds her every day their awful past, is not easy to do.
Even if Ellie knows Flynn is the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to her and she deserves to be happy,
she’s still fighting to overcome her demons.
Their HEA is possible but their journey feels like perpetually chasing the tide…
Personal Thoughts:
An imperfectly perfect love story that will always stay with me.
This book was an emotional read but not heart wrenching as the first book was.
Here Ellie has matured and confronted a lot of her issues.
We also learn more about her past and her scarring time in foster care.
In this book the only thing that bothered me a bit was her “wanting more” after all we’ve witnessed with these two.
I completely understand how hard it was on her to be finally free to see the world and do whatever she set her mind to but remaining stuck, because changes are very hard on Flynn and he’s already suffered so much because of her.
In those moments though, I couldn’t help feeling like she still didn’t fully deserve all the awesomeness that Flynn is.
She eventually understands she already has the most precious thing anyone could ask for…
“He was banana bread and holding hands. He was soft smiles and warm touches. He was whispered words and solemn declarations. He was love. He was home. He was forever.”
With the help of Flynn’s therapist and with the strenght of their unconditional love for each other, they both learn how to overcome their difficulties and “catch the tide” every day.
